BDLG shares Landcare Victoria’s vision of rich and diverse Victorian landscapes, supporting productive farming, healthy ecosystems and thriving communities. The Group seeks to make a positive difference to the local landscape while being respectful of the knowledge of diverse groups of people with a connection to the land.

The BDLG area covers approximately 14,400 hectares northeast of Bairnsdale. This includes areas of intact and remnant native vegetation, and varied agricultural land uses. The group boundaries are Walsh’s Cutting in the north, Bruce’s Road in the east, Tambo Upper Road in the south and the Nicholson River in the west.

The 2019/20 Gippsland bushfires followed soon after by Covid-19 lockdowns and restrictions severely disrupted the operation of the group and it was effectively discontinued. The current BDLG was revived in August 2022 and the group has been slowly regaining momentum and identifying new opportunities for environmental works in the district.
